A day after the tragic bus accident at Mount Abu, Gujarat Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has announced Rs50,000 as compensation to the families of the 13 deceased. The transport body will also pay Rs25,000 as compensation to each of the seriously injured.

On Friday evening, an Ahmedabad-bound bus plummeted into Abu valley, killing 13 people.

At around 5pm, the state transport bus nosedived into a 100-feet gorge while on the descent from Mount Abu to Abu Road in Sirohi district of Rajasthan.

According to a list of the dead and injured released by GSRTC on Saturday, Kamlaben Babulal, a resident of Deesa in Mehsana district, was the only passenger from Gujarat who died in the mishap. Remaining 12 deceased were residents of Rajasthan.

"We will not discriminate (among the victims) and will provide the announced compensation to each of their families," said PD Patel, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GSRTC.

GSRTC will also pay Rs25,000 to 47 seriously injured passengers who are being treated at Global Hospital Trauma center on Abu Road.

Addressing rumours about the driver who allegedly escaped from the bus instead of steering it to safety, Patel said, "Some passengers claimed that the driver jumped after he lost control and let the bus go down the hill. We will conduct an inquiry into these allegations."
