In an ill-fated occurrence, a groom had to spend the night before his wedding day in the police lockup for partying with his friends.

The Sarkhej police raided a club where the groom-to-be and his pals were gambling and making merry before his big day, and arrested the group.

However, the errant group was released on bail a few hours before the wedding on Saturday, and the bride, after spending anxious hours, could make her date with her husband-to-be.

According to Sarkhej police officials, at 3.15 am, the cops raided the premises of Ghuma Pleasure Club in Bopal. The police had received information of a party going on there where Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was being consumed.

During the raid, the police discovered that a group of nine youths -- Tanvir Wajawala from Vejalpur, Anant Patel from Bodakdev, Jesan Brato from Bhaiyandar, Mumbai, Kevin Verani from Baroda, Dhaval Panchal from Gurukul, Kapil Shivani from Jodhpur, Nimit Hasdarika from Satellite, Mario Victor from Bopal and Francis Pol from Dhalgharwad - were enjoying a 'bachelors' party' but were also indulging in illegal activities like gambling.

"Tanvir Wajawala who is employed by a multinational company, was to get married on Saturday night at 9 pm. To celebrate the last day of his bachelorhood, he had invited all his friends for a get-together at Ghumma Pleasure Club. He booked a room and planned a party, where they were caught gambling," said BK Rana, police inspector of Sarkhej police.

"In the raid, the police seized cash worth Rs 47,230. However, no IMFL was consumed. The police had arrested all the nine persons and they were produced before the court on Saturday morning. All of them were released on bail. However,
after the formalities were completed, the group was freed
only by 5 pm, just a few hours before the wedding of Wajawala," Rana added.
