The BJP today alleged that economist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had failed to control price rise and suggested that instead of tom-tomming GDP growth and 'hoodwinking' people, the government should admit its failure on this issue.

"Food inflation is hitting the highest ever level in contemporary times while overall inflation is crossing 9%. The prime minister and his government seems to be tom-tomming the GDP growth calling it as good. What good is such a growth which keeps away the common man from his daily rations?" BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy asked.

Alleging that the UPA government was "completely clueless" about how to control price rise, he said, "The economist prime minister has proved a disaster."

The principal opposition termed as an "eyewash" the actions taken by the government to check prices.

"The fact remains that the government and the PMO are unaware of the ground realities. 'Closely monitoring' the situation is not the answer. Action on the ground and sincerity in delivering could have been an answer but precious time has already been lost," Rudy said.

He claimed that in a recent cabinet meeting agriculture minister Sharad Pawar told the prime minister that commerce minister Anand Sharma's actions have been totally opposite to what was intended.

"The state of the left arm not knowing the right arm's actions under the nose of the learned prime minister is proving costly for the nation and the public. Its time the prime minister stops hoodwinking and admits his failure to the nation," Rudy said.
