New Delhi: As part of its 'Green India' movement, the government aims to bring one-third of the country's geographical area under forest cover in the next 10 years, environment minister Jairam Ramesh said today.

"The challenge is huge and I seek everyone's support to make this possible," he said at an award function today.

Presenting the Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Awards here, he hoped the award will inspire all the stakeholders to raise to the occasion and fulfil the Government's objective and address environmental issues facing the country.

The awards were presented for the year 2006, 2007 and 2008.

The awards were divided into four categories such as individual including government servant', 'institutions or organisations under government', 'joint forest management committee' and 'non governmental institutions or organisation.
