A government appointed committee has recommended an infrastructure plan to provide various facilities to people affected by the construction of Tehri dam.

In a report, which was recently handed over to Uttarakhand irrigation minister Matbar Singh Kandari, the Dinkar Committee has recommended the government to construct a safety wall in order to save them from attacks from wild animals, improve alloted agriculture lands, provide clean drinking water, proper water drainage and give the settlements status of revenue villages, officials today said.

The committee headed by Superintending Engineer of Irrigation department AK Dinkar was set up in Oct 2009 to look into the problems being faced by the people rehabilitated due to the controversial 2400 Mw Tehri hydroelectric project.

The committee has made its recommendations after paying nearly half-a-dozen visits to the rehabilitated settlements of Tehri dam affected people in Rishikesh and other areas.

When contacted, Kandari said the committee has recommended various works with an estimated cost of Rs 71 cr and they would soon be implemented.
