BJP today demanded that the government stop all talk of a dialogue with the naxals after they killed 76 security personnel in Dantewada, saying the idea is "patently absurd" as the Left-wing extremists want to seize political power and end parliamentary democracy.

The principal opposition also came down heavily on activists who have become the "sophisticated face" of naxal violence as they maintain a conspicuous silence when they kill innocent people but cry foul when Maoists are killed.

"The intentions of the naxalites are very clear. We need to be clear about our intentions. BJP believes there is no purpose in talks. The very idea of offering talks is patently absurd," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Calling for a "determined view and co-ordinated action" by the government against Naxals, BJP said the onus of what measures need to be taken -- including use of army, air force, etc -- lies with the Centre.

Prasad asserted that home minister P Chidambaram should
understand that the country needs a proper counter-insurgency
scheme and planning against naxal violence.

"The idea of India is alien to the naxals and democratic norms and human lives and values have no place in their scheme
of things," he said.

Taking a dig at home minister P Chidambaram, he said, "He often says if the naxals abjure violence we can talk. This is an interesting phrase."

The main opposition also asserted that government needs to strengthen its intelligence gathering and network, impart proper training to forces and provide them sound equipment.

BJP also expressed its disapproval of activists who support the naxal cause.

"Some self-appointed guardians of naxalites talk of human rights and write 25 page articles in magazines. When two or ten naxals are killed they criticise it but when naxals kill innocent people they maintain a conspicuous silence," Prasad said.

He said these activists have "double-standards" on human rights. "Don't victims of naxal violence have any human rights...These activists are the sophisticated face of naxal violence," Prasad said.

BJP also rubbished claims of naxals that they stand for development and this has won them the support of locals.

In Chhattisgarh assembly elections (2008), naxals had openly opposed the polls but still Bastar (74.80%), Kondagaon (78.70%), Jagdalpur (71.78%) and Dantewada (56.4%)- which are naxal-affected - voted in big numbers, Prasad said.

He argued that in Bastar, of the 12 Vidhan Sabha seats, BJP had won 11.

"The only weapon of tribals was vote and they rejected the naxalites...naxals should have their popularity tested through polls," Prasad said.

Naxals had also attacked all popular tribal leaders and their family members in the past which showed they were anti-tribal and wanted to annihilate them, he maintained.
