Government protecting uber rich: Arvind Kejriwal

India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday accused the government of protecting the uber rich and targetting the small fish while investigating the allegations against 700-odd people who hold Swiss bank accounts.

"The government is following two yardsticks. The income tax department is raiding only the small players. Why isn't any action being taken against HSBC (Bank)? The government is fooling the country," Kejriwal told reporters here.

Kejriwal had on Friday accused industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, Jet Airways chief Naresh Goyal, Congress MP Annu Tandon and several others of holding accounts in HSBC Bank's Geneva branch. The bank and all of those targetted by Kejriwal have denied any wrongdoing.

Kejriwal asked Finance Minister P Chidambaram why the government was protecting HSBC Bank and why couldn't India access the list of all its citizens who have accounts in foreign banks, like America.

"Do you agree that the names and amounts we disclosed yesterday, they appear in the list of 700 people?" Kejriwal questioned.
