Goa police has swung into action to de-activate a wireless set, lost during patrolling by two motorcycle-borne constables near here. "We are taking some technical steps to ensure that the lost wireless set cannot be misused," Atmaram Deshpande, superintendent of  police (Special Branch) told PTI.

The two constables were suspended, after they lost the wireless set on the night of July 12, when they were heading to attend a call received by control room about a petty quarrel between two rival groups in Maharwada village, in North Goa.

The set was lost in Mapusa town, 10 kms away from here. The battery remained with the policemen while rest of the part fell off, a senior police officer said. The duo were on 'Robin', a mobile patrolling bike recently launched by state director general of police BS Bassi.

Police said that there is no security risk involved in losing a wireless set as it is without a battery and such batteries are not available in an open market. "Its a password protected handset and the code word is known only to the policemen who uses it," they said.
