Expressing anguish at the tardy pace of investigation into his son's death, Dmitry v Prosnyakov, a Russian, has said Goa is no longer a safe tourist destination.

"It is definitely not a safe place. All this while, we considered Goa as a safe destination, but after what happened to my son, I do not think it is advisable as a holiday spot, Prosnyakov told PTI.

Prosnyakov's 21-year-old son, Anton was found murdered along with his girlfriend Marina Pulina at a hillock near Vagator beach in November 2007.

The chief engineer with Coralina Engineering in Moscow was recently in Panaji to see for himself the place where his son was killed.

The grieving father paid homage to his departed son at ST Inez crematorium here where police had created the victim claiming it as 'unclaimed'.

Establishing his son's identity and claiming his remains has been an ordeal for Prosnyakov. After waiting for two years, what he got was a skull of his murdered son, which was  couriered to him in August last.

"I had sent the samples required for DNA test in 2007 itself from Moscow, but it took almost two years for the police to get the final test done, he said and also expressed anger over pace of police investigation.

"It is two years now that my son has been killed. When I met police, they said, investigations are on. File is still open and we are investigating. They are doing nothing," he said. Anton Prosnyakov's case is being investigated by Anjuna police who have already gained notoriety for the shoddy investigation into the murder of British teenager Scarlett Keeling case, which is now being probed by CBI.

Prosnyakov also recalled the fascination Anton had for India. "He first visited India in 2006. He was so impressed with the country, that he toiled hard to arrange finances for his and his girlfriend's trip here."

The Russian youngsters arrived in Delhi on August 25, 2007. After travelling to Srinagar, Leh and Himachal, they arrived in Goa from Mumbai on October 19.

Later, Police found the skeletal remains of both the Russians at an isolated spot at Vagator.

Pysnyakov feels that the rape on Paulina may be the motive behind the murder as the duo did not carry any valuable with them.
