Gujarat Ecology Commission is carrying out a study in an attempt to identify and document good environment-friendly practices in the state. The initiative, being carried out in association with World Around You (WAY), will invite entries from individuals and organisations about environment-friendly practices carried out by them.

The last date for submission of entries is June 15. The submission will first be validated and then screened in July. The selected nominees will then be asked to make a presentation in front of the final jury. The jury will comprise experts from institutions like PDPU, Gujarat University, Gujarat Vidhyapith, Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), LD College of Engineering among others.

Speaking on the occasion, AK Verma, member secretary, GEC, said that 25 best initiatives in Gujarat will be selected and featured in a special publication to be released on the subject.

HS Singh of the forest department said it was important to spread the message about the initiative as many people may not know about it. "I have often seen that several people in rural areas work in the field of environment protection but hardly get any recognition," said Singh.
