Frontier regions of Ladakh reel under intense cold

The Kashmir valley and frontier regions of Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold with sub-zero temperatures at many places, even as the mercury continued its upward trend in the state.
    
Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region remained the coldest places in the state with a low of minus 11.0 degrees Celsius recorded at both the towns, Met office said.
    
In Kashmir valley, the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in North, which recorded over five feet of snow early this month, was the coldest place with night temperatures at minus eight degrees Celsius.
    
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state where the day temperature yesterday were 13.8 degrees Celsius, recorded a minimum of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.
    
Another famous hill resort of Pahalgam, which serves as a base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra in South Kashmir, had a minimum of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius followed by Kupwara (minus 2.6) and Qazigund (minus 1.5).
    
Meanwhile, cold conditions abated in Jammu with the day and night temperatures rising by several degrees.
    
The night temperature recorded in Jammu was 9.4 degrees Celsius. The city also recorded a high of 25.0 degrees Celsius - four degrees above normal.
   
The hilly Bhaderwah town in Doda district of Jammu recorded the lowest night temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius.
