A Delhi court today issued a fresh notice to a senior Uttar Pradesh jail officer over the failure of prison authorities to produce Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari before it in connection with a MCOCA case.

Additional sessions judge Madhu Jain did not find the response of the IG (Jail) to the court's previous notice failure of the authorities to produce Ansari as satisfactory and issued a fresh notice against him for January four.

Earlier, the UP Jail official had sent a response to the court's notice saying since the legislator was indisposed they were unable to produce him before the court.

The DIG (Jail), who had appeared earlier before the court, failed to explain the reasons for the prison authorities' repeated failure to produce Ansari.

Uttar Pradesh prison authorities could not produce Ansari, the MLA from Mau who is in Ghazipur jail, in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in 2005, before the court, citing his ill-health.

Ansari, who had unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha elections on a BSP ticket from Varanasi seat, was not produced in the court despite production warrant as jail authorities claimed he was suffering from gastro-enteritis.

Delhi Police invoked MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) against inter-state gangster Munna Bajrangi, arrested last month from Mumbai, and Ansari for running an organised crime syndicate here.

Ansari is wanted in a MCOCA case for being associated with Bajrangi in running the organised crime syndicate in the country.

Bajrangi, whose real name is Prem Prakash Singh, was arrested from Mumbai by a joint team of the Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police on October 29.

According to the police, Bajrangi is also allegedly involved in more than 10 murder cases across the country.
