Four rape accused sentenced to 12 years RI in Orissa

Four rape accused were today sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment by a local fast track court here.

Judge Girish Mishra found the four accused, Vhiku Oram, Puren Oram, Raswal Oram and Ghurun Oram of Padiacholi Basti in Baghdega village guilty of raping a minor girl on April 5 this year.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 each and in case of default, they will have to undergo an additional jail term of two years.

The court had examined the victim and 14 other witnesses during the trial.

In another case, the judge convicted rape accused Ramesh Gochhayat and sentenced him to seven year rigorous imprisonment and Rs10,000 fine.

The court has ordered him to face one year extra jail term in case of default of the fine amount.

According to the prosecution, Ramesh had kidnapped the victim on January 8, 2008 from Rourkela city and took her to Biramitrapur town, about 30km from here, and raped her in captivity.
