Four fishermen injured in 'attack' by Sri Lankan naval personnel

Fisheries department officials said the naval personnel in patrol boats intercepted them off Katchathivu, attacked them and threw their fishing nets and communication equipment into the sea.

Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu were injured when they were attacked allegedly by Sri Lankan naval personnel while fishing off Katchathivu island last night.
 
Fisheries department officials said the naval personnel in patrol boats intercepted them off Katchathivu (an island ceded to Sri Lanka by India in 1974), attacked them and threw their fishing nets and communication equipment, including Global Positioning System into the sea.
 
Later they were told to leave the area,officials said.
 
The fishermen have been admitted to a private hospital here, they said.
 
The four were part of a group of about 200 fishermen in 50 boats who put out to sea from here last night.
