West zone residents of the city may not have to worry about water logging in monsoon, except for a few areas, but they sure will face trouble when cave-ins and potholes develop on
the roads. Potholes, drainage overflow and cave-ins are but a few problems which will haunt the residents during the rains.

Residents of various wards of the west zone said Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) storm water drainage network has helped to reduce water logging, barring a few places. To cite an example-Ankur Cross Roads and Vijaynagar under the Naranpura ward are the critical places where vehicles face difficulty, said Siddharth Mehta, resident of Naranpura.

Monsoon is the worst time of the year for those living on the ground floor. Not only does water logging become a menace, but overflowing drainage water adds to the woes, said Hitesh Patel, a resident of Vijaynagar. The civic body did not pay any attention to the cleaning of the drainage system which gave its residents a harrowing time, added Patel.

The residents are also worried about cave-ins and potholes that are developed during the monsoons. AMC officials do not supervise work carried out by contractors which results in improper filling of the earth. This earth filling then forms big cave-ins on the roads. "It is really scary to ply on the city roads in monsoon, especially in the areas where civic body had carried out work to lay drainage pipes," said Prakash Dave, resident of Nirnaynagar.

Congress corporator from Juna Vadaj, Naran Patel apprehended serious problems in areas surrounding the newly built Dadhichi Bridge over the river Sabarmati.

"The corporation's flawed planning increase people’s troubles," said Patel.
Himanshu Shah, a resident of Vasna area, said newly the built Parimal Garden underpass is likely to
get flooded like any other underpass in the city. "It will be better if the civic body sets up some mechanism to keep it operational even during the rainy season," said Shah.
