Navrangpura police arrested Captain Sunil Singh, director of International Institute of Flying Staff (IIFS) on Wednesday. Singh had been absconding since an FIR was lodged against him by students for cheating them with false promises of job after three months of training at his institute.

On December 10, one Naushad Saiyad, 22, a resident of Surendranagar, filed a complaint of cheating against Singh. Along with him, 10 other students of the institute, located on the third floor of Bhavani chamber on Ashram road, gave an application to the Navrangpura police to probe the cheating done by Singh.

Majority of these students are from 2008 batch. They alleged that they were lured by the advertisement in news papers, in which Singh offered jobs in aviation industry, such as air hostess and cabin crew, with salaries ranging from Rs15,000 to Rs35,000.

After taking admission, they paid Rs 60,000 as course fee.
"Even after four years of completion of the course, Singh haven't given us any job. On inquiry, we found out that his institute is neither recognised nor registered," said Saiyad.

IIFS has been functional since 2004, and Singh made crores from more than 700 students at the institute. "Majority of us come from villages and humble family background. He lured us by giving examples of some students, who claimed to have got good jobs in the airline industry through him" said Saiyad, a student of 2008 batch.

"He only took us to Mumbai by air, and gave training at a guest house, in which an aircraft was erected," said Salim, former student and now a marketing executive at a local firm.
