A festive occasion is reason for massive peaks in vehicle sales, as vehicle dealers in the city will testify. And after Janmashtami, when a record number of vehicles were booked as well as delivered, Dussehra proved another occasion when a massive growth was witnessed in automobile sales.

Auto dealers say that a growth in the range of 25% to 50% was witnessed this year, as compared to last year's figures.

What's more, dealers feel that the figures will climb higher, come Diwali.

Regional manager for Bajaj Auto, Manish Khatav, said the company sold around 5,000 bikes in Gujarat on Dussehra, out of which 1,000 were sold in Ahmedabad alone. When compared to last year's sales, the company has registered 50% growth on Dussehra, he added. Two motorbike models of the company - Discover and Pulsar, appear to be in huge demand.

Bajaj auto dealers are disappointed though with lower spot booking. However, Jayesh Pandit, CEO of Manan Bajaj, said, "People have already purchased their vehicles by now, as we have been doing good business for the past five months."

Sukhbir Bagga, director of group Planet Petal, said that they have witnessed nearly 25% growth in sales on Dussehra, and hope for high sales during Diwali too. Group Planet Petal informs that they have delivered 130 units of various models of Hyundai, Yamaha and Suzuki brands, and 70 units of Nissan. In the two-wheeler segment, the dealer sold around 500 Suzuki Access and 150 Yamaha models.

Similarly, Hyundai dealer Concept Hyundai delivered 150 cars in Ahmedabad on the day of Dussehra. "Last year, the government had introduced a depreciation scheme on cars purchased before September, so sales on Dussehra were good. However, this year, the sales figures have mounted despite no government incentives", said Pavan Nanda of Concept Hyundai.

In the luxury car segment, Audi delivered 16 cars and Volkswagen delivered 40 cars in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Volkswagen delivered 80 cars across Gujarat. Other luxury cars have also registered good growth, with BMW delivering nine units and Mercedes Benz 30 units, said sources.

"We have delivered 70 cars in Ahmedabad during Navratri and Dussehra, and expect the numbers to touch 100 during Diwali", said Nishit Ghelani, vice president of Volkswagen in Gujarat.

He added that people in Gujarat are becoming increasingly conscious about how stylish they're perceived to be, and that is why they are investing in depreciating properties, which was not the case earlier.
