A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in a Jamshedpur slum, police sources said today.
The girl a resident of Bagbera area of the city was found in a serious condition from near the railway station last night, the sources said.
She was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries today, they said.
She was staying in the Bagbera slums with her mother, a domestic help.
Local Congress MLA Banna Gupta and his supporters staged a dharna near the railway station demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits, removal of the police officers of the area and compensation to the family of the deceased.
Gupta blamed the illicit liquor business for the increasing sexual assaults on minor girls in the area and demanded that the administration take stern measures against illicit liquor trade in the area.
Earlier a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the same area in the last week of December.
