The Gujarat University police, who have been facing brickbats due to their inability to catch the city's notorious 'biker gangs', claimed to have caught five lads between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The youths were caught for reckless driving.

The police said that Bhavesh Hamesh (17) and Gagan Singh Kushwaha (18), both residents of Kubernagar, Shahnavaj Khan Pathan (21) and MD Hussain (20), residents of Danilimda, and Shailesh Kansara (15), a resident of Sola, have been arrested. (The names of the minors have been changed to protect identity). "We arrested these youths for rash driving. They were violating the speed norms notified by the commissioner of police," said SJ Vaghasia, police inspector with the Gujarat University police station.

According to Vaghasia, the youths were driving dangerously around midnight on Saturday, and were hence arrested. He said that although it is difficult to say whether these young men belong to the infamous biker gangs, they were driving in a similar fashion. They were also performing stunts on their bikes.

The arrest comes in the wake of nuisance created by the so-called 'biker gangs', who were in the news last week over incidents of beating up an IAS officer's son and pelting stones and liquor bottles on police patrolling vehicles.

The varsity police, in an attempt to nab the main mind behind the biker gangs, had picked up 19-year-old Arjun Rabari for questioning, in connection with the attack on an IAS officer's son Abhinav.

However, during interrogation, it was found that Rabari and Abhinav were friends.
