Average turnout in six municipal corporations in the state stands at 43.68%.
The final voter turnout in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections was 44.08%, slightly higher than the average voting of 43.68% in six municipal corporations that went to polls on Sunday, according to figures released by state election commission (SEC).
SEC officials said that 15,60,025 out of 35,39,424 registered voters in Ahmedabad, i.e. 44.08% voters, cast their votes in the polling held on Sunday. The voters included 8,56,473 males and 7,03,552 females. The counting of votes will commence on Tuesday morning, while final results are expected before noon.
In Surat, out of 24,20,000 registered voters, 10,24,184 voters exercised their right to vote in the polls, resulting in voter turnout of 42.32%. The number of male voters in Surat was 6,03,529, while that of female voters was significantly lower at 4,20,655.
The election to 25 wards of Vadodara Municipal Corporation witnessed 44.46% voter turnout, as 5,06,982 voters out of 11,40,362 voters cast their votes. The number of male and female voters was 2,77,509 and 2,29,473 respectively. In Rajkot, 3,15,809 voters out of 7,65,291 registered voters cast their votes in yesterday's civic body elections, a turnout of 41.27%. 1,74,259 male voters and 1,41,280 female voters cast their votes in the polls.
The final voter turnout in Jamnagar Municipal Corporation elections was 50.35%, the highest among all corporations. Out of 3,35,493 registered voters, 1,69,157 voters, including 92,185 males and 76,972 females, cast their votes. In Bhavnagar, the voter turnout was 45.25% as 1,67,877 out of 3,71,035 voters exercised their right to vote. The number of male voters was 92,102, while female voters numbered 75,775.
According to SEC, 37,44,034 voters out of 85,72,055 registered voters in all the six municipal corporations cast their votes, resulting in average turnout of 43.68%.
