Jaipur: The process for filing of nomination papers in 46 civic bodies began today with the Rajasthan state election commission issuing notification for the polls, an official spokesman said.
It will be the first time when various civic officials will be elected directly by the electorate, he said, adding mayor and chairman were previously elected by councilors.
Municipal corporations of Jaipur, Kota, Bikaner and Jodhpur, eleven councils, and 31 municipalities will go for polls, and altogether 612 councilors and 46 other officials will be elected. The last date of filing nomination papers is November 11, while the scrutiny will take place the next day. Withdrawal of nomination will be allowed till November 14.
The counting of votes will take place on November 26. For the first time EVMs will be used in the state's civic polls wherein each voter will cast two votes -- one for ward member, and the other for either mayor or chairman as per the civic body rules.
