The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has come to the rescue of the parents who were fed up with self- financed schools charging various fees arbitrarily.
For, as per a new set of guidelines issued by GSHSEB, the schools cannot ask for any donation or development fee, and in case they plan to increase the fee, they have to inform the parents six months before the beginning of the next term. The board has said it can even cancel the recognition of the school if it violates any of the specific the rules.
The board had received several complaints from parents about self-financed schools charging high fees under the pretext of term fee, tuition fee and entry fee, etc. The schools were also increasing the fee without prior notice.
There were also complaints that the schools had been taking donations from parents without following any guidelines and without giving any receipts for the same.
As per the new guidelines, if a self-financed school violates any of the new rules, then parents can approach the District Education Officer (DEO). The DEO shall issue a notice to the school and also conduct an inquiry and forward the report to GSHSEB.
Based on the report, the GSHSEB can impose a fine on the school.
