Unable to repay the crop loan due to failure of the crops was the main cause of suicide by Fransis Kujur, a farmer of Sundargarh district, on October 13, the official report said.

his Angurpali Balimunda village under Hatibari police station to probe the cause of the suicide recently.

Besides the villagers, they talked to Tangarpali Sarpanch Sukadeb Ekka and concluded that poverty and unable to repay the Rs45,000 crop loan he had taken from a nationalized bank, was the cause of the suicide.

According to the team's report, Fransis had used some of the money for digging a well but could not complete it. The rest amount had been spent on agriculture but he could not water the standing crops because the well was not complete and due to shortage of rainfall.

Fransis finally came to city and worked as a labourer with a wage of Rs90 a day but it was not adequate to maintain his family -- wife and three sons. In the meantime he was asked by the bank to repay the loan. In this circumstances, he committed suicide, the report said.
