Around 150 students from different schools of Ahmedabad gathered at Science City on Wednesday , to attend a seminar and interactive session, to celebrate the 219th birth anniversary of Michael Faraday, the pioneer of electricity and magnetism.

The special programme was organised on the theme of ‘Michael Faraday, our brightest spark’. The programme included a seminar, interactive session, screening of films, presentations and guided tours to the theme pavilions. Dr CM Nagarani, retired scientist, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Dr Mukesh Bhatt, professor of physics at a city college, spoke at the seminar. Students were mesmerized as both the speakers conducted interesting interactive sessions, which made the students more aware about science and Faraday’s experiments.

During the programme, the students got to know how Faraday, the famous chemist and physicist, has a number of inventions and achievements to his credit.

Faraday has contributed a lot in the field of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. A discoverer of electromagnetic induction, he established the fact that magnetism and rays of light have an underlying relation. “Michael was known for his experiments in electricity and magnetism, which proved to be a revolution in the era of science,” said Bhatt.

Speaking about Faraday’s life, Nagarani said, “Michael received limited formal education and knew very little of higher mathematics; still, he was one of those scientists who made a difference in our lives.” The programme paid tributes to the pioneer of electricity in order to sensitize the students of the present generation and to inspire them
towards this field.
