The family of a Border Security Force (BSF) head constable, who allegedly died after his service rifle went off "accidentally" in Assam on Saturday, refused to receive the body at Raliawas village here, demanding that a high-level probe be ordered into his "unnatural death".
Ram Phool Yadav (38), attached to 193 BSF battalion, was found dead in his room, and the BSF authorities had informed the family that he was killed in an accidental firing from his own gun at his room in Silchar. His body was brought here by a BSF contingent today.
However, Phool's wife Sunita Yadav and his brother Om Dev Yadav, along with residents of the village, 16 km from here, refused to accept the body, expressing apprehension over his death.
They alleged that it was a case of murder and demanded a probe by a high-level committee into the circumstances leading to his death.
Meanwhile, a family member said they would take a final decision on receiving the body tomorrow.
