Fake Indian currency, pistol smuggled from Pakistan seized

Punjab Police today seized fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs10.45 lakh, six automatic Chinese pistols and ammunitions smuggled in from Pakistan and arrested one person.

State Special Operation Cell (SOC) of counter-intelligence department of Punjab Police here seized the fake currency and arrested Harbir Singh alias Beera, Assitant Inspector General of SOC Manminder Singh said.

He said the currency, which was in the denomination of Rs500 notes, arms and ammunitions, including 12 magazines and 50 live cartridges, were smuggled from Pakistan.

The AIG said Sukhraj Singh, an accomplice of Harbir, managed to escape at the time of the latter's arrest but would be apprehended soon.

A case under section relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act has been registered.

The AIG said the SOC succeeded in apprehending Harbir along with fake Indian currency, arms and ammunition following the arrest of smugglers Ravel Singh and Kuldeep Kumar on April 9 with fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs2.85 lakh.

Preliminary investigations have revealed the recovered consignment was part of a bigger consignment recently smuggled from Pakistan by Harbir Singh and his associate a few days ago.

Investigations are being conducted on different lines to unearth the complete nexus and network of this gang.
