Every Indian school should teach Urdu: Kapil Sibal

Sibal said that Urdu can never die "as it is close to our hearts".

Observing that Urdu is a language deeply associated with the history and culture of India, HRD minister Kapil Sibal today batted for teaching it in every school in the country.

"I want to run a scheme under which every school in the country will impart Urdu language as a subject," he said at the golden jubilee function of the Urdu department of Delhi University here.

Stating that the language has been closely associated with the independence movement and has inspired many a literary figures over the ages, he said Urdu can never die "as it is close to our hearts".

"Urdu language is the representation of the fragrance of India and the enormous complexities of India and it is the language through which we can give a strong message to all fascist forces who want to destabilise the country," he said.

Sibal also sought to link the language with trade and commerce for its promotion.
