Eight persons die in floods in Arunachal Pradesh

Officials said the deaths occurred after the victims were buried under the debris following massive landslides at Mossing village in Upper Siang district last night.

At least eight persons died and several others were rendered homeless in the first wave of flash flood triggered by incessant rains during the past two days in Arunachal Pradesh.

Officials said the deaths occurred after the victims were buried under the debris following massive landslides at Mossing village in Upper Siang district last night. The district remained cut off following disruption in road link due to flash foods.

Flash floods triggered by torrential rains this morning wrecked havoc in parts of Prem Nagar Colony, East and West Damsite at Naharlagun. A vital bridge connecting Upper Siang with other places was badly damaged, besides several road links.

A number of houses were washed away at Gossang village and the area near Simar stream. A school building was also damaged in flash floods in the district.

The district administration has asked all departments to be on a war footing for restoring extensive damages besides essential services and supply of drinking water. 

District medical officer has been asked to make arrangements for preventing epidemic. 

Flood also created havoc in East Siang district with Siang river flowing one mt above danger level and inundating low-lying areas in Pasighat township, officials said. 

East Siang deputy commissioner Onit Panayang said rescue teams of civil police, CRPF, NCC and NSS volunteers have been
readied for pre and post-disaster management.

Pasighat-Pangin and Pashighat-Mebo roads were washed away by rain this morning, disrupting the link between the district headquarters and these two small towns.

Power supply was also disrupted following break down of Power Grid's Yazali-Ziro-Daporijo-Aalo-Pasighat line. 

About 23 houses, two bridges as well as flood control walls were damaged badly and lakhs of properties swept away by devastating floodwater in Damsite area, officials said.
