Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday blamed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti for provoking “Kashmiris to replicate Egypt”.

“Mehbooba Mufti calls for Kashmiris to replicate Egypt. Seems she wants Army rule as well since her party is in opposition now,” Omar tweeted soon after .

Earlier Mehbooba congratulated people in Egypt and said there are similarities between Egypt and Kashmir. “They were fighting for democracy we are fighting in spite of democracy. For the last 60 years we have been fighting for the resolution of Kashmir issue which continues to simmer. If some change takes place in some part of world it does not remain confined to that area. Its effect can be felt in other regions”, she said.

Mehbooba also appreciated Egpytian army for “protecting their own people” and took on J&K government for dubbing “pro-azadi” protestors as “paid agents, Lashkar-e-Tioba men and drug addicts”.

“I appreciate the army’s role in Egypt. They proved they were protecting their own people. When Egyptians came on roads nobody leveled allegations against them, but when thousands of people took to streets in Kashmir against bloodshed and for justice, they were termed paid agents, LeT men and now latest drug addicts. Our own people are hell bent to defame us”, Mehbooba said.

The J&K government has taken a serious note of Mufti's statement and demanded an explation. "PDP and its leadership should come out clear and clarify,” said finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather.

Mehbooba also gave a powerpoint presentation of the vision document and in one of the slides titled "make J&K free economic zone", the PDP showed the map of J&K in three different colors with currencies of SAARC superimposed on it.

SSP Srinagar Syed Ashiq Bukhari last week had stated that 70% of the stone pelters arrested in Srinagar belonged to broken families and most of these youth were hooked to drugs. President of the PDP, which launched statewide agitation against repression and for solution of Kashmir issue Saturday, said some people keep saying “khoon ka badla june main leyange” (We will take revenge of bloodshed in June) but she does not know what it means, he said.
“Youth are being picked up and lodged in jails. Those released have to mark attendance in the police stations. It has serious consequences and we want the government to end this kind of oppression”, she said.

Mehbooba said Kashmir has taken a lead in abjuring violence after 9/11 but the government and central leadership has not acknowledged. “People participated in 2002, 2008 polls and chose ballot over bullet. Unfortunately the transition was ignored and not acknowledged by the central leadership”, she said.w
