Eden Gardens in Kolkata on high alert for IPL match

Kolkata police commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty said that he has visited the ground and appealed to the spectators not to carry bags to avoid delay in checking.

All precautions have been taken for the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Eden Gardens tonight and security stepped up in view of the explosion at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore that left five securitymen injured prior to another IPL match in Bangalore.

Kolkata police commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty told PTI that he has visited the ground and appealed to the spectators not to carry bags to avoid delay in checking.

"Don't carry bags inside the ground as it may cause delay," the police chief said.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens at 8pm.

West Bengal chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty said that all precautionary steps had been taken at the Eden Gardens in view of the explosion at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore shortly before an IPL match.

"The state government appeals to all spectators to be on alert and they should not touch any suspicious objects," the chief secretary said.
