If this is sign of things to come, then Election Commission (EC) will have its hands full disposing of complaints and cross-complaints of code violations by parties against each other.
So far, the Election Commission has received 685 complaints, a senior official said on Wednesday. Interestingly, not a single complaint has been received in Ahmedabad.

“We have received 685 complaints about violation of model code of conduct as of November 20. Of these, 658 complaints have been disposed of, while 27 complaints have been referred to the commission,” said Gujarat CEO Anita Karwal.

Karwal said that police complaints have been registered in 32 of the cases. The highest number of police complaints has been registered in Mehsana (8), followed by four each in Banaskantha and Surat, three each in Ahmedabad, Rajkot & Junagadh, and two each in Kutch, Vadodara and Narmada. One police complaint was filed in Jamnagar.

“We are ensuring strict compliance with model code of conduct,” she said.

The EC said that it has received zero complaint of violation of model code of conduct in Ahmedabad, but police complaints have been registered in three cases. Kheda is another district where no complaint of poll code violation has been received so far.

Sabarkantha (1), Dangs (1), Bhavnagar (2), Tapi (3) and Dahod (9) are the other districts that have received less number of complaints, commission said.

Karwal also said that her office has received 53 complaints of model code of conduct violation from political parties. This includes 27 from BJP, 16 from Congress and remaining 10 by other parties.
