5.6 magnitude earthquake rocks Kashmir

Experts and geologists have said that the earthquake measured 5.6 to 5.8 on the Richter Scale, and lasted for about two to three seconds.

A moderate intensity earthquake shook Kashmir Valley this morning but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage.

"An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter Scale occurred in Northwest Kashmir at 11.36am" an official of the disaster management cell said.

He said the epicentre of the quake was in Gilgit area, which is under Pakistani control.

There are no immediate reports of any damage caused by the tremor, the official said.
