Your fully air-conditioned Duronto Express, which promises to take you to Mumbai faster that any other train operating on this route at the moment, will cost you just a little more than any other express trains. However, the catch lies in the fact that there will be five additional '3rd A-C Economy Coaches' having 78 seats each, with the fare Rs50 lower than the normal 3 A-C fair.
At present, Gujarat Mail's AC coaches- be it 1st, 2nd or 3rd - have the highest fair. It also happens to be the most popular train for people traveling to Mumbai. The ticket charges for Duronto Express on the other hand will surpass that of Gujarat Mail's, even though at a nominal level. The train will have one 1st AC coach, three 2nd AC coaches, four 3rd AC coaches and five economy class coaches.
The train will be non-stop and will take a little more than six-and-a-half hours to cover the distance leaving behind even Shatabdi Express, which till date is the fastest. Other trains such as Shatabdi and Karnavati Express have only chair cars.
According to Jitendra Kumar Jayant, PRO, Ahmedabad division, the reason behind accommodating economy class is to promote the train. He said that the main characteristic of this train is going to be its non-stop journey and being the fasted on the route.
The train will be flagged off in Mumbai on Thursdayat 2 pm. It will reach Ahmedabad at 8:40 pm and will depart at 11:40 pm. It will reach Mumbai Central at 6:15am.
