The Sessions court on Tuesday granted bail to Dr Bhadresh Shah, an orthopedic surgeon, who was arrested by crime branch in connection with the dummy writers scam.

As per the prosecution Shah had given false certificate to the students on the basis of which they managed to appoint a writer for them. The writers are alleged to have answered the exams for the students.  "The court has granted the bail on the ground of parity as one of the accused namely Bhagwat Singh was released on bail by the Gujarat high court," informed Sanjay Thakkar lawyer for Dr Shah.

He further added that the court while granting the bail has also observed that "the case is based on the documentary evidence and the prosecution has also not sought for further remand of the accused for further investigation and he is presently in the judicial custody."

Earlier Metropolitan Magistrate had rejected bail of Shah on the ground that, "it is a serious offense against the society". Shah then challenged the order in the Sessions Court.

Corrigendum

In edition dated August 26, DNA had reported that the bail applications of Sanjay Patel and Dr Bhadresh Shah were rejected. The court had issued order rejecting  the bail plea of Sanjay Patel, but not that of Dr Bhadresh Shah. We sincerely regret the error.
