A large posse of police, including high ranking officers, is on the look-out for the alleged killers of a youth on the Dudheshwar-Vadaj bridge on Sunday night.

It transpires that the young man, Ravi Shrimali, who along with his friend Chirag Shrimali had strayed into the area on a bike to have cane-juice but found themselves accosted by a gang who beat them up and as a result of which Ravi succumbed to his injuries. DCP SM Katar told DNA: "We are sure that the assailants were not Hindus… but we are yet to find out who the actual killers are. We are probing the matter in-depth."

JCP JD Katara is the other high ranking official who is probing the case, along with groups of policemen from Naranpura, Karanj and Madhavpura.

On Sunday night at 10 pm two girls, Rajni and Geeta, who reside in hutments under the bridge stepped out for a stroll on the bridge but were allegedly molested by some young men. They shouted out for help and a few men from below the bridge came to their rescue.

When they began beating up the young men, relatives and friends of these two men joined in the fray. The fight went on for some time and then there was a lull.

It was then that Ravi Shrimali and Chirag Shrimali drove into the area, little knowing what lay in store for them. Incidentally, Hindus reside at one end of the bridge and Muslims stay at the other end.
