Alcohol supply in the city will run dry for a while as the crime branch seized a truck loaded with Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at Vyara a couple of days back. The truck was suspected to deliver the consignment at some pre-decided spot near Ahmedabad. The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), Ahmedabad has arrested one Dilip Marwadi in connection with the illegal trade.
Marwadi, a resident of Anand, is one of the close aides of the wanted bootlegger Kailash Rathi, and has been arrested by the DCB for his alleged connection with the liquor supply. Jeetendra Yadav, PSI, DCB, arrested Marwadi from near Maninagar railway station; he is currently in police remand.
A source in the police told DNA that Marwadi is one of Rathi's aides, and brings IMFL from other states. "Marwadi has three other partners, Wahid Ali Ansari, Mafa Marwadi and Zuber alias Kalu, and all of them are involved in the bootlegging activities in the state," said the source.
They get IMFL from nearby states such as Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, and deliver the consignment to sub dealers in the state. "A large consignment of IMFL is supplied to the city and on a number of occasions it enters from Anand," the police source said.
"Rathi is wanted in as many as hundred cases of bootlegging. He operates from the nearby states while his agents work from here," the police said. However, the DCB is investigating the matter and other details related to Marwadi's association with other bootleggers may be revealed soon.
Marwadi is hails from Rajasthan, but operates from Gujarat with the help of his close aides. "He is a resident of Zalor district and has been living in Gujarat for the past 30 years," read an official press note released by the DCB.
