Dreaded criminal shot dead in Lucknow

A hardcore criminal, wanted in 38 cases of murder, dacoity and loot, was shot dead in an encounter with the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police in Hardoi district, a senior police officer said in Lucknow today.

Anwaar alias Duddi, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs15,000 on his head, was injured in an encounter with the STF team near Sandila on Lucknow Hardoi highway late last night, Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters in Lucknow.

Duddi was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, he said.
