Wanted by the Interpol, among the 10 most wanted criminals in Andhra Pradesh, a killer notorious for the manner in which he executed his victims, Nagendra Reddy indeed was no ordinary criminal; but his murderous ways finally came to an end on Tuesday.

Reddy, 30, who had a psychopathic tendency of chopping off hands and heads of his victims, was shot dead in an encounter with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Tuesday morning on 11th cross Ramamurthynagar.

Reddy had joined as a web designer with a private firm in Wembley, London, in 2002 when he murdered his friend for monetary gain.

He had also murdered his childhood friend Rajesh Artham, a software engineer with Sachin Computers in Bangalore as he had refused to lend him money. The murder was committed in Mahalaxmi Deluxe Lodge in Majestic.

The police said Reddy was planning a bank heist in Bangalore when CCB inspector Balegowda received a tip-off at about 11 pm about Reddy’s plans. He was also informed that Reddy was moving about in a black Tavera with an Orissa registration.

Leading a team, Balegowda intercepted Reddy in the car on 11th cross, Ramamurthynagar.

When asked to surrender, Reddy allegedly started firing at the CCB personnel and also tried to run them over. The policemen retaliated and Balegowda’s bullet fatally wounded Reddy in the neck.

Reddy had escaped from Victoria Hospital in 2006 where he had been admitted as he had complained of ill-health. When he came to know that a UK police team was on its way to arrest him in connection with the 2004 murder of his friend, Radhakrishna Chepoor, a software engineer, in UK, he escaped from the toilet.

“He was absconding and the FTC-6 (Sixth Fast Track Court), Bangalore, had issued a warrant of arrest to secure him before February 10,” Bangalore police commissioner Shankar M Bidari said.

Reddy faced charges on a total of 13 heinous offences, including six murders, one dacoity, and for escaping from the judicial custody twice.
