DoT official is all praise for Gujarat’s IT initiatives

While Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will be happy with praise heaped on him by  additional secretary, department of information technology, government of India, Shankar Aggarwal, it might upset the latter's boss, Kapil Sibal.

At the inaugural ceremony of the seventh edition of 'e-India 2011' at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Aggarwal not only praised Modi and IT initiatives taken by the Gujarat government, but also said that under the effective leadership of Modi, the country would continue to progress. His statement may be seen in the context of the Gujarat CM aiming for the most powerful leadership job in the country.

Delivering the keynote address, Aggarwal praised Gujarat's utilisation of ICT in delivering public services. He said, “Quality and quickness in delivery of public services are still a major area of concern in many states of the country but in Gujarat, things are better. But we can still use the technology in a better way in education and healthcare sector and for financial inclusion as well. This is the only way to ensure not only two digit growth rate but also inclusive growth.”

He added that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, bureaucrats and executives, are all working work with the right kind of energy and enthusiasm. He said, “Aap ke netrutva me ye desh nirantar pragati karta rahega. (Under your leadership the country will continuously progress).”

Modi spoke about various initiatives taken by the Gujarat government for the effective delivery of public services. He covered topics like reducing the school dropout rate, using bar-code system in PDS, digitalization of land records among others. Modi also inaugurated the e-India exhibition, being organised concurrently with the conference and unveiled 'Kamdhenu' - the classroom on wheel, conceptualized by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad to create awareness about the use of technology.
