Srinagar: PoK-based United Jehad Council (UJC) today asked the Hurriyat leadership not to take a "hasty" decision with regard to dialogue with the Centre, saying bilateral talks had proved futile in the past.
UJC Chairman Syed Sallahuddin, who is also the chief of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit, said "Bilateral talks is no solution to Kashmir issue. The Hurriyat leadership should prevent themselves from taking any decision in haste on dialogue."
"The militant leadership is not against the dialogue process but it wants only tripartite talks among India, Pakistan and Kashmiris," he told a local news agency.
Referring to the recent visits of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram to Kashmir, he said their statements on good governance cannot help in establishment of peace in the state.
The militant leader also asked the hardline and moderate factions of Hurriyat to join hands and come out with a joint strategy in resolving the Kashmir issue.
