Don't burst projectile-type crackers during Dussehra or Diwali - this is what police have told the residents of two west Delhi areas where oil installations and LPG bottling plants are located.

The prohibition orders have been enforced within 500 metres from the boundaries of oil installations of HPCL and IOC at Shakurbasti and LPG bottling plants of Indian Oil Corporation and oil installations of IOC, HPCL and BPCL in Tikri Kalan.

"Sale of any firecracker in any quantity or bursting of fire crackers which can be released in air in the form of projectile like rockets, shells, merry-go-rounds, missiles and sky shots are prohibited within 500 metres from the boundaries of these installations," a senior police official said.

The prohibition orders were issued as it was observed that during Dussehra and Diwali, people often burst fire crackers in streets, open grounds and roofs.

"The bursting of projectile-type crackers may turn out to be dangerous from fire safety point of view if done in the vicinity of the above installations. So, the order has been issued," the official said.
