Dikshit government insensitive, corrupt: Delhi BJP

In a stinging attack on the Sheila Dikshit-led government, opposition BJP today accused it of being a very "insensitive, corrupt and arrogant" dispensation that has "no sympathy" for the difficulties of the common man.
   
Senior party leader VK Malhotra, speaking at the Assembly on Motion of Thanks to the Lt governor's address, also blamed it for delaying implementation of the projects relating to the Commonwealth Games.
   
"This is the most insensitive, corrupt, anti-people and most arrogant government," Malhotra said.
   
Alleging corruption in implementation of Games-related projects, he questioned the inordinate delay in executing them. "Delhi was chosen for holding the Games in 2003. Why the government did not start work on the projects till 2008."
   
The leader of opposition alleged "huge corruption" in the public distribution system and in Delhi Jal Board and said "ration mafia has been controlling the PDS system while tanker mafia is exploiting the common people by charging very high rate for water supply.
   
Slamming the city government for failing to rein in price rise, he alleged involvement of officials of Food and Civil Supplies department in diverting food articles allocated for the BPL card holders.
   
"A report submitted to the Supreme Court by a committee has found rampant corruption in the PDS system in Delhi," he said.
   
Criticising the government for not carrying out any welfare measures in unauthorised colonies, Malhotra said Rs700 crore is being spent to improve the face of the Connaught place while no money has been allocated for improving basic infrastructure in villages and rural areas.
   
He also attacked the government for failing to clean the Yamuna river.
   
"The river has become a drain. What did you do in the last 11 years. Now foreign governments are issuing advisories to people not to go for boating in the river," he said.
   
Participating in the discussion, Congress MLA Barkha Singh highlighted the achievements of the government and said it could significantly improve the quality of lives of common people in the last one decade.
   
"We have made significant achievements in almost all the fields. Delhi has truely become a world city," she said.
   
Another Congress MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah also highlighted various infrastructure projects of the city government and said the face of the city has changed during the last 10 years.
