The RSS today hit back at Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh's statement accusing it of links with "Hindu terror" his remarks are "baseless" and were an "attempt to divert" attention from the "misdeeds" of the ruling party.
Alleging that Congress has been making "baseless allegations", RSS Sarkaryavahak Bhaiyyaji Joshi said whenever the party has found itself to be in a difficult situation, it has tried to make stinging allegations against RSS.
"The statement of Digvijay Singh is irresponsible and completely without any basis in fact. It is far from truth and entirely fallacious. Being besieged on all sides because of its own misdeeds, Congress has levelled these allegations to divert the attention," he said.
The statement was issued on the sidelines of a function to release Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy's book titled 'Hindutva and National Renaissance'.
Singh had said the "hatred" of RSS towards Muslims was like that of Hitler for Jews and blamed the 1992 rath yatra of LK Advani as the "root of terrorism" in India.
Charging that Congress has always been playing the "communal card" for minority votes, Joshi said RSS neither believes in nor supports any act of terrorism or violence.
"RSS' unequivocal position has always been that whenever such a thing occurs, there should be an in-depth investigation and guilty should be punished after due judicial procedure. In these cases, no judicial procedure has begun and such irresponsible statements are interference in investigation" he added.
The senior RSS functionary said the talk of majority-minority terrorism raises doubts over government's seriousness to deal with terrorism.
