Has BM Vyas really resigned or is it simply confusion? To clarify the issue, nine of the 13 district dairy unions of GCMMF have asked apex body to call for a requisite meeting on June 30.

The meeting has been called with just one item on agenda: ‘Managing director BM Vyas’s resignation on April 29’. Eyebrows have been raised over the controversy:  "Why did Vyas resign on April 29 without any meeting or quorum and why was he relieved on June 11, after 45 days?"

"Chairmen of nine district unions have sent a request to call a meeting on June 30 to discuss BM Vyas’s resignation.

Considering the requisition, we have called a meeting with only one item on the agenda," said GCMMF chairman Parthi Bhatol. The nine district dairy chairmen are Ramsinh Parmar of Kheda milk union, Vipul Chaudhary (Mehsana), Mogha Desai (Valsad), Govind Ranparia (Rajkot), Narendra Mukhi (Vadodara), Shankarsinh Rana (Gandhinagar), Manu Patel (Surat), Jetha Patel (Sabarkantha) and Malabhai Rabari (Surendranagar).

“The meeting will be attended by the chiefs of all 13 milk unions,” said Bhatol.

Parmar of Kheda union, who has been made leader of these nine unions, said that the board members are confused over Vyas’s resignation. “On April 29, Vyas did not put in his papers but informed GCMMF chairman that his term was ending in November. He wanted to inform the board to take necessary steps if GCMMF is not willing to extend his term after November 30,” said Parmar.

According to Parmar, the information letter or notice written by Vyas was considered as resignation letter which was incorrect. “First, Vyas did not resign. Secondly, even if he resigns, the chairman cannot accept the resignation without board’s consent,” he said.

As Parmar’s lobby has called for requisite meeting on June 30 to discus Vyas’s resignation, they cannot discuss any other issue, including farmers’ money or Bhatol’s resignation.

“Two days back, the Parmar and Chaudhary lobby were crying for farmers’ money and suddenly their interest has changed to Vyas’s resignation.

“It seems that they are after Bhatol. Bhatol is also adamant and he will not resign until board members call for another meeting
for it,” said an official from federation.
