Dial 155220 for public transport details in Ahmedabad

The Ministry of Urban Transport has ambitious plans of pan India common helpline number for public transport across the country, which even our Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is considering of implementing.

Thus, if it comes true, whether you want to check BEST buses in Mumbai or BRTS in Ahmedabad is running on time, all you need to do is dial 155220. Officer on special duty, urban transport SK Lohiya said they are planning to launch the number soon.

"Why should there be different helpline numbers for different cities? Railways have a uniform system for every city that allows commuters to get information from any city by dialing 139. We wanted a similar system for public transport too," said Lohiya.

He also said they are planning to launch another number 155221 to get additional services like getting schedule through SMS etc.

Lohiya said they have written letters to all municipal corporations including AMC. Officials at AMC said they had received the letter. Municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad Guruprasad Mohapatra said they are considering the possibilities. "It is a good system which will ease commuters' problem in Mumbai or Ahmedabad. There is no reason why Ahmedabad should not join in," he said.

Deputy municipal commissioner for Janmarg BRTS, Utpal Padia said though recently they have launched toll free helpline number for AMTS and BRTS, they are considering switching to all India common Public Transport helpline.
