With 20 more patients testing positive for dengue, the cases of the vector-borne disease in the national capital today rose to 166.

Dengue cases in the city have witnessed a sudden surge over the last few days, but the figure is still far less than last year, when over 1000 cases and two deaths were reported.

"20 more positive cases have been reported since yesterday, taking the total number to 166. There is no report of any dengue death this year," Municipal health officer, MCD, NK Yadav told PTI.

Though spread of dengue fever was in control till now, the last 10 days have seen five to six cases daily on an average.

Today's figure marks the highest single-day incidence of dengue this season.

Civic bodies have intensified measures to prevent the spread of dengue and sent notices to various government buildings for high mosquito breeding.

"We have intensified fogging operations too," Yadav said.

Asked about the sudden rise in cases in recent days, he said generally, maximum cases are reported in October.

"Still, the number of cases is quite low this year due to intensified efforts by us, less rainfall and increased awareness about the issue before Commonwealth Games."
