The state election commission is likely to implement delimitation in all wards of Ahmedabad for upcoming elections of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. However, the civic body has not received any information in this regard for conducting the elections stipulated for October 2010.

Sources said it is likely that delimitation, revision of ward limits as per contingencies, would come into effect in the present 43 election wards of the civic body. However, IP Gautam, municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad, said the civic body was yet to receive any instruction from the state election commission in this regard.

The election department of AMC has completed ground-work taking a broad overview of every possibility for the civic body election as it is still in the dark about what instructions will
be given by the state election commission.

"We have collected maps of all the wards and will take around five months for implementing delimitation of all wards," said Dinesh Vasava, election officer of AMC. However, everything depends on the instructions given by the state election commission.

The election department has prepared voting list of 43 wards. With inclusion of new areas in west and east Ahmedabad along with Motera and Chandkheda, 15 more election wards are likely to be included, said sources.

Vasava said the number of new wards also depends upon the criteria of ward-wise population decided by the commission. The state election commission's silence on this issue has baffled corporators of Ahmedabad. They believe last minute instructions about delimitation of present 43 election wards by the election commission may affect their preparations.

Leaders of both political parties, the BJP and Congress, said they had no information about what would be the criteria of conducting election in October 2010 as it is decided by the state election commission and the AMC has just to follow them.
