Delhi woman killed by daughter-in-law

Mewa Devi had had an argument with her youngest daughter-in-law Babita, 35, at their residence after which the incident took place.

A 65-year-old woman was burnt alive allegedly by her daughter-in-law in northeast Delhi, the police said today.

The incident took place in Usmanpur on Thursday and the victim has been identified as Mewa Devi.

Mewa Devi had had an argument with her youngest daughter-in-law Babita, 35, at their residence after which the incident took place.

The police said Mewa Devi was cooking when Babita picked up a fight with her.

"Babita allegedly shoved Mewa Devi making her fall atop the gas stove," police said.

She was rushed to the GTB hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Babita fled to her mother's residence in Kondli village after the incident. She was brought back only this afternoon, said the officer.

A case has been registered.
