The Delhi police will soon increase its surveillance in Dwarka, and initiate more stringent checks on bikers in the area, which has of late reported high cases of chain snatching.
Though the number of snatching cases has come down in winter, police expect an increase in summer, and has hence decided to increase patrolling and random checks in the area, police sources said.
They said the southwest district police has also written to civic agencies including the Delhi Development Authority for increasing basic amenities, like proper street lighting, better public transport system and more speed-breakers among others.
The formation of another police station recently in Dwarka has helped the increase in number of personnel and a more focussed security apparatus, they said.
"The number of inspectors available has increased to six than the earlier three. Beat constables and other staff have also increased, which will enable for a more focussed role," another source said.
As part of the procedure adopted by police to check incidents of chain snatching, the number of pickets would also be increased, the sources said.
"We are waiting for the Republic Day to end, and will then increase the number of pickets, especially at all entry and exit points to the sub-city. Traffic police would keep a check on bikes especially the fast ones being driven by youngsters," a source said.
