Delhi metro registers 10 per cent jump in passengers today

A total of 7.58 lakh people travelled in the the new-age transport system, till 8 pm this evening generating a revenue of Rs95.28 lakh, which is an increase of nearly Rs4.5 lakh.

Delhi Metro today registered a 10 per cent jump in its daily passengers following reports and advisories that there will be traffic jams in the national capital due to the visit of the Commonwealth Games delegation.

A total of 7.58 lakh people travelled in the the new-age transport system, till 8 pm this evening generating a revenue of Rs95.28 lakh, which is an increase of nearly Rs4.5 lakh as compared to that of last Thursday.

Around 7.27 people took the metro till 8 pm last Thursday generating a revenue of 91.06 lakh to the DMRC.

Metro officials attributed today's jump in the ridership to the reports and traffic advisories asking people to avoid certain roads in Delhi as a delegation officials from the Commonwealth Games Federation are here to review the security preparedness ahead of next year's sports extravaganza.

They said more number of people opted for Metro as they thought they would be stuck in trffic jams if they take their vehicles.
